How much does it cost to move to TRNC?

How much does it cost to move to TRNC?

Due to its mild climate, sea, relaxed pace of life, and relatively affordable prices, TRNC is increasingly becoming a popular destination for relocation. Relocating here does not require complicated visa procedures, and initial costs are usually lower than in EU countries.

The approximate budget for relocation for one adult is around $1,500–1,700. For a family of two adults with a child, the initial budget is usually $2,500–3,000, excluding the purchase of real estate.

Below we will discuss the main nuances of emigration.

How to get to Northern Cyprus

By plane via Turkey

There are no direct international flights to Northern Cyprus — all planes arrive at Ercan Airport via Turkey. This is the easiest and most popular way.

Average ticket prices (one way):

  • Russia — $80–150
  • Turkey — $25–60
  • European countries and the UK — $50–160

Flying via Turkey is considered the safest option in terms of migration issues.

Via Southern Cyprus

You can fly to Larnaca Airport (Southern Cyprus), then cross the “green line” and enter the North.

Important: you will need a Schengen visa or pro-visa if you are not a citizen of the EU or the UK.

Approximate ticket prices to Larnaca (one way):

  • Russia — $85–120
  • Armenia, Georgia — $15–30
  • Europe — from $90

From Larnaca, you can take a taxi to Kyrenia for approximately $65–85, or use a group transfer for $15–25 per person.

Ferry from Turkey

In addition to air travel, you can reach the TRNC from Turkey by ferry from the ports of Tashuj or Alanya in 2-3 hours. The one-way fare is about $45. This is suitable for those traveling with a car or large luggage.

Documents and residence permit

1. Visa and residence permit

Russian citizens do not need a visa; upon arrival, they are issued a stamp valid for 30–90 days. To stay longer than this period, a residence permit must be obtained locally. We discussed residence permits in this article.

  • Main expenses for a residence permit (per adult):
  • State fee for a residence permit $40–60
  • Medical examination (tests) $80–90
  • State health insurance $120–140
  • Notary services and translations $50–100

2. Apostille

An apostille is usually required for:

  • birth certificates
  • marriage certificates
  • certificates of no criminal record

The cost of an apostille is approximately $20–50 per document.

Important: an apostille can only be affixed in the country where the document was issued.

3. Medical insurance

Local insurance is required for a residence permit, but international insurance is sufficient for the first few months of your stay. The cost of basic local insurance ranges from $100–150 per year, while private extended insurance costs $200–300 per year.

Medical care for foreigners is not free, so insurance is not a formality but a real necessity.

Housing: renting and buying

Renting a one- or two-bedroom apartment will cost around $400–700 per month, while villas cost $800–1,200+ per month. A one-month deposit is often required.

Buying an apartment will cost from $100,000, and a villa from $220,000. You can find the best offers from trusted TRNC developers in our catalog.

If you are moving with children

  • Children's residence permits are issued at the same time as their parents'
